Dear alpaca, knitting and textile enthusiast, Helen Hamann, a native of Peru, and an internationally known knitwear designer and alpaca expert, will accompany this tour and share her experiences growing up and living in Peru. She will show you places and introduce you to people that you would never have the chance to experience with a conventional tour. Join us for this exciting, fun and educational trip to Peru where raising alpacas and knitting and weaving with alpaca yarn are ancient art forms with great cultural importance. Explore the fascinating culture of this most unique South-American country. Sample its magnificent, flavorful and varied food – by far one of the best in the world. Visit ancient Incan ruins and pre-Incan textiles museums. Shop at local markets, knit with native Quechuan women and visit an alpaca and a vicuna ranch. Marvel at the scenery: bleak and vast deserts, mesmerizing mountains, deep canyons, productive valleys and impenetrable jungles. While traveling with fellow alpaca, knitting and textile enthusiasts, work on a knitting project inspired by Incan designs (optional) and receive insightful tips on color, design, texture, fit and all sorts of knitting techniques in a friendly and relaxed environment. October 23 (Thursday)- Arrival in Lima Arrival in Lima Accommodation: Hotel Casa Andina Private Collection Lima***** October 24 (Friday) – Lima In the morning visit Lima’s historic center, the Cathedral, the San Francisco Church and the Aliaga House, a house with colonial origins, which has been kept in excellent conditions. Meals: B, L October 25 (Saturday) – Lima - Puno Free morning in Lima Meals: B, D October 26 (Sunday) – Uros and Taquile Islands Morning boat to the Uros and Taquile Islands Meals: B, L, D October 27 (Monday) – Puno – Mallkini In the morning our private transport will be waiting to take us on a three hour drive to Malkini, an exclusive Alpaca Hacienda and breeding grounds. Meals: B, L, D October 28 (Tuesday) – Mallkini Full day to visit the alpacas, kept in different herds around this 3000 hectares property. There will be time to learn about the raising and breeding of these wonderful animals. Meals: B, L, D October 29 (Wednesday) – Mallkini – Pitumarca - Cusco Early departure towards the local community of Pitumarca. Meals: B, L October 30 (Thursday) – Cusco Morning visit to Cusco’s nearby ruins, including Sacsayhuaman. The guide will explain the origin and meaning of these ruins, which can be traced to pre-Inca times. Meals: B, D |

October 31 (Friday) – Awanacancha – Pisac – Huayocari On our way to the Sacred Valley, we stop at Awanacancha, to watch the different animals of the Camelea family, and have a brief insight into the processes of the fibre, from the animal to the final product. Meals: B, L November 01 (Saturday) – Full day visit to Chinchero and Accha Alta We devote this full day to the observation of the ancient weaving designs and techniques used by the people belonging to the communities of Chinchero and Accha Alta. Meals: B, L November 02 (Sunday) – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes Morning visit to the Ollantaytambo town an ruins. Meals: B, D November 03 (Monday) – Aguas Calientes – Cusco Early wake up to travel up to the ruins and appreciate the first lights on the citadel. Meals: B, D November 04 (Tuesday) – Cusco – Lima - Pucallpa First flight Cusco – Lima. Meals: B, L, D November 05 (Wednesday) – Shipibo weaving demonstration We devote the morning to visit the Shipibo community of Conibo, and observe their unique weaving art. Included Domestic Flights: All transfers, tours and excursions in private service, as indicated in the itinerary Not included Meals not specified in the itinerary. Because of the nature of hotels and the travel industry, it is not always possible to secure the hotels and lodges listed in the itinerary. Helen Hamann will endeavor to secure the hotels listed. However, Helen Hamann reserves the right to secure the next best available option or an upgrade in the event that the original hotels are not available or are overbooked. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Passports are required. If passenger is NOT a US citizen, please check with Peruvian consulate to determine if visa is required. Travel Insurance: All travelers are strongly advised to purchase travel insurance. Unexpected delays, illness, and weather may result in extra expenses or concerns about being able to participate in the tour. Helen Hamann will gladly make insurance arrangements for all travelers. Authority on the Tour The decisions of Helen Hamann and/or tour guide shall at all times be final and binding. The client must at all times respect the laws of the visited country, and the internal regulations of the tour. Shall the client be in any contravention of the above or be a nuisance to the group, the guide may order him/her to leave the tour without any claim to a refund. The client shall be obliged to make his/her way home at his/her own expense. Tour Prices: Early Bird Rate Special of $5667 per person for 1-10 people, $4887 per person for 10+ people based on a double occupancy and requires payment in full prior to July 15, 2008. After July 15, 2008, rates are $6067 for 1-10 people and $5187 for 10 plus. Single occupancy supplement is $785. Deposit and Payment Schedule: A $1000 deposit per person is due with registration (highly recommended because tours fill up quickly). $250 of the deposit is nonrefundable but may be applied towards a future trip. Balance is due by July 15 to receive the early bird special. Our preferred payment method is by check, but payment may also be charged to a credit card using PayPal. When making payments by check, please make checks payable to Helen Hamann. Cancellation Fees: Days prior to trip Fee per person Responsibility: Helen Hamann and its representatives abroad act only as independent contractors, that is, they are not acting on behalf of either the customer or the suppliers. Once airline tickets are issued they are non refundable. After commencement of the trip, no refund will be provided for any unused services. If you make any changes to any portion of this itinerary after departure, such changes will be at your own expense. If for any reason, this tour is cancelled, all moneys will be refunded in full.
