Classes and Workshops

Helen Hamann's Designs.

Since 1977, Miss Hamann has been designing and manufacturing hand-knitted sweaters of the highest quality. Her designs have been sold as ready-to-wear pieces in markets around the world including Europe, North and South America and the Far East. Miss Hamann’s designs have also been featured in specialized magazines, TV shows, mail order catalogs and published as knitting and crochet patterns for all levels of expertise. Her passion for knitting and design extends to sharing her knowledge and knitting skills by conducting workshops all around the country. Knitting with Suri

Proficiency: All levels.
Description: Students will learn how to work with alpaca fingering yarns and will discover how versatile and luxurious this yarn can be. Exercises using an increasing number of threads will be practiced to show that alpaca may be used for the most delicate lace as well as for a beginners' garment.
Materials: Assorted knitting needles sizes will be required, which students are requested to bring with them. We will provide alpaca fingering yarn ready for knitting for $25.00/100 gr.

Knitting with Ribbon Yarns

Proficiency: Intermediate.
Description: Students will learn how to work with ribbon yarns which requires a totally different technique than regular knitting. The final results in a variety of ribbon yarns will be shown. Exercises will be practiced to learn to keep the yarn flat at all times as well as showing the difference in working under the needle and over the needle, as well as how to work different stitches.
Materials: Knitting needles US #19 (15 mm) which students are requested to bring with them. We will provide a hank of The Alpaca Yarn Company’s Suri Ribbon ($10.00/50gr).

Knitting and Crocheting with Beads

Proficiency: Intermediate.
Description: Students will learn how to work with beads, paillettes, bugle, sequins, etc., using different techniques to thread them onto the yarn.
Materials: We will provide yarn and beads for $10.00 for swatching. Students are requested to bring knitting needles in assorted sizes (preferably sizes between US 3 (3.00 mm) and US 8 (5.00 mm) and crochet hooks in sizes US D and G.

Intarsia

Proficiency: Intermediate.
Description: This class has been designed to teach the fundamentals of Intarsia. It requires an intermediate level of workmanship and students are requested to be prepared to challenge themselves in order to achieve good results.
Materials: Students are requested to bring knitting needles in assorted sizes and 3 to 4 skeins of different colored yarn of the same quality.

Fair Isle

Proficiency: Intermediate.
Description: This class has been designed to teach the fundamentals of Fair Isle knitting or weave knitting. It requires an intermediate level of workmanship and students are requested to be prepared to challenge themselves in order to achieve good results. We will teach students to hold a different colored yarn on each hand for best results in weave knitting.
Materials: Students are requested to bring knitting needles in assorted sizes and 3 to 4 skeins of different colored yarn of the same quality.

Short Row Shaping and Live Stitch Insertions – How to Take Full Advantage of These Techniques

Proficiency: Intermediate to Advanced.
Description: Students will learn how to work short rows to shape different portions of a garment, such as sleeves, darts, collars and more, and how to use live stitch insertions to its full advantage.
Materials: Students are requested to bring enough DK yarn to be able to practice different options, as well as needles to work with the DK yarn.

Provisional Cast On and Tapestry Needle Bind Off

Proficiency: Intermediate.
Description: Students will learn the different uses and techniques of provisional CO, as well as how to BO using the tapestry needle BO technique.
Materials: Students are requested to bring enough DK yarn to be able to practice different options, as well as needles to work with the DK yarn, a ball of waste yarn and a tapestry needle.

Color Weaving

Proficiency: Intermediate.
Description: Students will learn the different uses and techniques of weaving color onto a stockinette fabric.
Materials: Students are requested to bring enough DK yarn to be able to practice different options of weaving, as well as several already finished swatches of stockinette stitch to practice the weaving. Other techniques also taught: Short rows shaping; Tapestry needle BO; How and how many stitches to PU; Using PU sts to shape garments and avoid seams; Weaving color into your Knitting; Question and Answer Workshop and many more. Just mention your desire and I will work a fulfilling workshop around it.

Charge for Workshops

There is a minimum of 15 students at $30/student or $250 for workshop of 3 hours.
